Minister:  Reverend Kent Lederer

You'll enjoy hearing Reverend Kent!  Each Sunday, he delivers spiritual concepts in a simple and easy-to-understand manner. His talks gently encourage people to ask the deeper questions that allow for genuine personal transformation. His enthusiastic approach to spiritual ministry is truly pastoral—as he believes and actively demonstrates that "God does love us—through one another!"

Kent's training is based in the Bible, Unity, New Thought and the Ancient Wisdom philosophies.  His teaching style is experiential and interactive.  He was licensed as a Unity teacher at Unity School of Christianity in 1995, and was later ordained as a Unity minister in 2002--through the Association of Unity Churches' Field Licensing Program.  He is originally from Western Kansas and holds a B.A. degree in Religion and Philosophy.

Reverend Kent is a warm, humorous and engaging spiritual teacher.  He uses both current events and personal stories to bring his messages alive.  You'll find that the principles that he presents are not only timeless but also very practical for today. Come celebrate and experience the goodness in you!!

Reverend Kent's Background

Kent came into Unity through the Unity Church of Practical Christianity in Houston, TX in 1970.  While attending there he served on their Board of Trustees.  In 1987, he was promoted to the home underwriting office of his company (Allstate) and was moved to Chicago, IL.  There he met Reverend Mike Matoin and began attending Unity in Chicago.  Over the next several years, his simple and easy teaching methods attracted more than 3000 participants to his classes at various Unity centers in the Chicagoland area.

As a respected and highly-sought-after trainer, Kent was asked repeatedly to present his "Teach the Teacher" workshop at various regional Unity conferences, as well as at the Licensed Unity Teacher week held annually at Unity Village.  In June of 2004, Kent was asked to be a workshop presenter at the Unity People's Convention held in Overland Park, KS.  He also presented a creativity playshop during the Fall 2004 spiritual Carribean Cruise by the Reverend Chris Chenoweth of www.PositiveChristianity.org

In 1998, a steering committee organized a new Unity church in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago.  Kent was asked to become its founding minister.  The new Unity Church of Peace received its full-church status with the Association of Unity Churches in 2000.  From 2002 to 2008, Reverend Kent also served on the Association's Field Licensing Committee, a four-year ministerial candidate program.  He mentored a candidate who is now ordained and leading a Unity congregation in Louisana.

In 2004, Reverend Kent received a call from Unity of Savannah, GA.  While there, he re-activated their Children’s Church, added a regular schedule of adult spiritual classes and led a successful fund-raising, building-improvement program. He presented on the topic "Preventing Child Abuse in the Church" at a clergy seminar conducted by the Chatham County District Attorney's office in the Fall of 2005.  He also was active in supporting the Youth Challenge Program at Ft. Stewart, GA—a program that assists high school dropouts with the GED and job-training.

In 2006, we invited Reverend Kent to join our Unity of Greater Lansing team—as our minister and spiritual leader.   He says of his ministry here in Lansing:

"Growing up, I imagined a place where people of all spiritual paths could come together to discover the unconditional and absolute love of Spirit.  Unity is this place!  As we experience the Divine Love in ourselves, we will naturally encourage everyone around us to express their own inner love and light.  Peace IS possible and it has begun with us !"
